Dear youcef

Here, the journey is the goal. We’ve linked Switzerland’s scenic highlights and cultural gems to make one spectacular, 1,600-kilometre route for you: the Grand Tour of Switzerland.

Every month, we’ll present you one of the sections in our newsletter. In this edition, the route takes us from the buzzing city of Zürich to St.Gallen, famous for its textiles and UNESCO World Heritage treasures, before continuing to the mountains of the Engadin and the resort of St. Moritz. Best of all, you can explore the highlights online first – on our web route.

Discover the tremendous cultural and scenic variety that Switzerland packs into one small country.

Scenic perfection

Some of the stages along the Grand Tour are so beautiful that they seem almost surreal. One is the section full of contrasts along Lake Constance, with gorgeous landscapes, Europe’s mightiest waterfall and a mountain summit from which you can see six countries.

The perfect pit stop: a Swiss city

Allow time for leisurely pit stops on your Grand Tour. Switzerland’s cities are compact enough for you to discover the sights and gastronomic highlights on foot. In Zürich, for example, stroll along the lakeshore and browse the boutiques in the Niederdorf before enjoying a world-class opera performance.

Freedom of the open road

Treat yourself to the ultimate road trip: a ride along Switzerland’s panoramic highways on a Harley-Davidson®. Just feel the freedom: the growling of the engine, the ever-changing landscape, the wind on your face as you glide towards the sunset… you’ll wish the journey would never end.

Reinventing the picnic

Two conceptual artists from St.Gallen are creating an enormous picnic blanket called the “Bignik”, containing 250,000 pieces of cloth until 2014, one for each inhabitant of Eastern Switzerland. Every June, the growing red-and-white blanket is rolled out for a vast picnic.

Capuns from Graubünden

The region of Graubünden would be a highlight of the Grand Tour for its cuisine alone. Locals agree that capuns – chard-wrapped dumplings – are not just a dish but a philosophy of life. Every family has its own recipe, handed down over generations; we reveal one of the best.
